Will Cassie Howard Break Beyond Repair?
As a child, Cassie saw her parents struggle in their marriage. She always tried to replace her dad and the void he left. Cassie waited on her father to show any kind of affection. Later on, the pattern was established in all her relationships.
Cassie fell in love with every guy she ever dated, no matter what they were like. She just didn’t like to be alone. But every guy she dated didn’t look at her the way she wanted to be looked at.
Cassie’s desperation and fancy to be loved come across well in her costumes. Heidi Bivens, the costume designer on Euphoria, said something about Cassie’s character and why we always see her in baby blue and pink clothes.
According to Heidi Bivens “She’s [Cassie] still trying to figure out how to present herself to the world, and I think so much of what she does and how she dresses is about wanting to be loved.”
Cassie’s deep-rooted abandonment issues have her running into difficult situations in all her relationships. Cassie is a people pleaser and extremely sensitive.
The feeling of wanting to be loved is so strong, to an extent that it leads her to be a victim of revenge porn. She has a difficult time navigating her relationships due to rumors of her sexual history.
Cassie brings in very chaotic energy in season two and is unhinged. It’s like she’s putting herself in harm’s way to feel loved. She’s flawed, naive at times, but she’s also the most vulnerable and humane character on the show.
Throughout seasons one and two of Euphoria, there have been references to how Cassie has never been single. She admits in front of Nate how she needs to stay away from boys and just focus on herself. That’s what the second season was about to be for Cassie.
But the writers had a different plan. Instead, she fell for Nate and is now on the path of complete destruction. The writers of Euphoria probably need to give Cassie some time and space away from men who add zero value to her life.
