Haley Bennett Brings Out A Powerful Leading Performance In Swallow
Swallow summons you into the life of Hunter (Haley Bennett), a newly pregnant wife who lives with her flawless-looking husband in their remote modernist home, that overlooks an endless forest. This picture-perfectness starts to show cracks when Hunter finds an interest in swallowing inanimate objects. This new habit or disorder forces her to breakthrough through the sluggishness with which she was drifting through life. Swallow is a strange empowerment tale planted in a domestic horror movie or maybe it’s the other way around.
The restaurant scene in the first few minutes of the film tells you so much about the dynamics between Hunter and her husband and her in-laws. In another interesting scene, Hunter explains to her therapist what she feels like when she swallows an inanimate object. Haley Bennett is wonderful in this one little scene and many other scenes.
